Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a car share and a ride share?
With a ride share, a driver comes to you and takes you to your destination. It’s very convenient and you don’t need to drive but you do need to pay a driver and you can’t reasonably have the use of the vehicle for an extended period. A car share is more like a very fast, affordable and convenient rental. The business is largely automated so there are minimal labour costs. You do need to drive yourself, but you get more freedom, flexibility and privacy at a much lower cost.
What is a co-operative?
A co-operative is an organization that is jointly owned and democratically controlled by its members. In Propel Us’ case, our members are our customers. Each member has one vote. Because we’re a non-profit co-op, nobody has a financial stake in the business. Members can’t receive any profits or dividends. This is so that we can deliver the best possible value to our members. Our focus is on saving people money, as opposed to making money.
Since our members share ownership and prices directly reflect operating costs, we hope to benefit from a culture of responsibility, care, and respect towards the vehicles and other drivers which will further help to keep costs low and service dependable.
When will Propel Us be opening?
Propel Us is beginning a beta program with one vehicle stationed at 288 Larch Ave on July 20, 2026. We’re planning a 2 car pilot program on the 400 block of Tranquille Rd starting early in 2027. Early in 2028 we’re planing to add 4 more vehicles in that same neighbourhood and 2 more on the 1000 block of St Paul St. From there we’ll begin to expand to additional hubs nearby, gradually expanding our service area.
You can help us grow by joining our wait-list to help us identify locations with sufficient demand to support a hub.
