Propel Us is Kamloops’ very own carshare. We’re planning a pilot location at Beem Credit Union’s Tranquille Rd branch. We will offer a round trip model of carshare, providing 24/7 access to a network of shared vehicles at unattended self-service locations. Accessing our vehicles will take only a moment. You’ll be able to book far in advance, or at a moment’s notice. As our fleet grows, so will the variety of vehicles we offer.

Propel Us is a non-profit community service cooperative. This means our members democratically control the organization and all revenues are used to provide the best value possible for our members and the community.

Mission Statement

The mission of Propel Us Carshare Co-op is to offer an alternative to car ownership by supplying and managing shared vehicles for drivers. We aim to make transportation in the Kamloops area more affordable, sustainable, accessible, and convenient.

Origin story

As Propolis Housing Cooperative Society was developing their concept for housing that would support a thriving and resilient community, it became clear that reducing parking could significantly lower housing costs, and support a more vibrant business area. They identified a carshare as a way to facilitate parking reductions while reducing on-street parking congestion in the surrounding neighbourhood.

They needed a carshare to operate on their site but there were none in Kamloops and they couldn’t find an established business interested in moving to town. Creating a carshare service within and for the cooperative wasn’t practical or as effective at reducing parking congestion, so they decided to create a sister organization.

Jyelle Vogel, a founding member of both Propolis and Propel Us, came up with the brilliant name “Propel Us”, a nod to our sister organization Propolis. Miles Pruden proposed the idea at Climate Action Fest 2023 where we registered a number of volunteers to start developing the concept.

On February 12, 2024, Propel Us Carshare Co-op was incorporated.

As we’ve developed our business model we’ve also learned a lot about the significant positive impacts carshares have on the local economy, household budgets, the environment and people’s ability to move more freely. We’re very excited to bring this service to Kamloops.
